How Our Screener Works
The assessments MARS administers, audio support, and what each one measures.
π§ Β MARS Screener
The MARS screener combines validated mental health assessments into a single structured screening experience.
It is designed to help organizations identify suicide risk, depression, anxiety, substance misuse, and related behavioral health concerns across different age groups.
Audio-Supported Screening
To improve accessibility and ease of use, screening questions can now be played aloud during the screening experience.
Respondents can select either English or Spanish when entering the platform.
π What the MARS screener assesses
The screener is built from validated instruments, selected to match the organization and the age group being screened:
- C-SSRS / eC-SSRS β suicide risk
- PHQ-A and PHQ-8 β depression symptoms
- GAD-7 β anxiety symptoms
- CRAFFT β substance misuse
- ARQ β adolescent risk behaviors
The combination of assessments used in MARS depends on the organization, population, and screening requirements.
MARS supports a configurable library of evidence-based assessments that can be tailored to organizational and program needs.
In addition to behavioral health screening, the platform can support a broad range of assessment workflows across related healthcare domains.

π±Β Additional behavioral health measures
MARS may also include assessments related to:
- Hope and resilience
- Perceived burdensomeness
- Peer connectedness
- Behavioral and functional risk factors
These measures help organizations build a broader understanding of psychological well-being and protective factors.
πΒ Why this matters
Depression, anxiety, substance misuse, and related behavioral factors are closely associated with suicide risk.
By combining multiple evidence-based assessments into one screening workflow, MARS helps organizations identify risk earlier and support more informed intervention planning.
